Once installed and set up it's very easy and intuitive to use. It's quite accurate at predicting when to turn the heat on to achieve a higher scheduled set point (i.e. having the house warm by the time you wake up).

Like the headline says. My systems have the Common (blue) wire installed, but apparently this unit can run on battery alone without a Common line. I'm currently running 4 zones on 3 air handlers with gas heat and standard AC forced air heating and cooling. The switchover from heating to cooling earlier this year was painless, and I expect the same later this year when we switch from cooling to heating.

Ordered this at the suggestion of a friend who does HVAC after the thermostat in my house started acting up. It was super easy to install, but did require some smaller gauge wire (that I had to purchase separately) due the age of my existing thermostat (which was from at least the 1950’s or 60’s) in order to tie it in with the existing wiring. Other than that, it was just what I needed and super easy to use and program.

Installation was easy and covered the footprint left by the old manual thermostats they replaced. I bought these because my HVAC guy told me I could easily do it myself without him charging me. Youtube videos on the wiring if you are not sure about it.

So full disclaimer I am a heating contractor. There are certain thermostats I'll never install like the Nest because they've proven to be extremely unreliable. However this is a nice product as long as you follow the directions. Any professional knows the right way to wire the this up and then you're supposed to follow the set up procedure. It allows you to program the thermostat for your unique system and enable certain features. As long as you do that properly this product works really well and I've never had any complaints from my clients. However, many homeowners really don't understand what their doing and install it wrong. Then they write a bad review about it when ironically it was actually their fault it didn't work right.

This thermostat supports installation with an optional C wire, which is perfect for us, because that means we don't need to install and continually replace batteries inside the thermostat. It's ideal for rental properties, because they're so much easier to maintain. Plus, you can configure the thermostats to be non-programmable, 5-2, 5-1-1, or 7-day programmable, which is nice because different tenants have different needs. (Some like the simplicity of a non-programmable thermostat, while others like varying degrees of programmability.)
